Emergency Declaration for the Town of Nassau
 
 
The COVID-19 situation is ever evolving. We are complying with state and federal directives and taking action locally. Please note:

NOTICE OF DECLARATION OF
EXECUTIVE ORDERS

 
An Emergency Declaration is so Ordered in the in the Town of Nassau effective at noon, March 16, 2020, extended as of April 20, 2020, and shall and shall remain in effect until rescinded by subsequent order.
 
​This Emergency Executive Order has been declared due to impacts from the COVID-19 public health emergency.  Emergency Orders have also been issued by the federal government, state government and the County Executive of Rensselaer County.
 
​This situation immediately threatens the public health and safety of the residents of Nassau.
 
​As the Chief Executive of the Town of Nassau, I, David F. Fleming, Jr., hereby exercise the authority given me under Section 24 of the New York State Executive Law, to preserve the public safety and to render all required and available assistance vital to the security, well-being, and health of the citizens of this Town.
 
​I hereby issue the following Executive Orders for the protection and safety of the public which shall have the same effect as law:
 

  • All municipal expenditures and travel of Town employees not necessary for the operation of government are immediately prohibited without the approval of the Town Supervisor.
  • All municipal departments, other than the Transfer Station will require appointments to conduct business.  Any individual that is currently ill or that has traveled to the European Union within the last three (3) weeks, is prohibited in Town facilities as most issues may be addressed over the telephone or via electronic mail.
  • All municipal meetings and town gatherings are hereby prohibited until at least April 20, 2020 save those necessary for the functioning of the government as directed by the Town Supervisor, utilizing remote access to comply with federal, state, and local social distancing requirements.
  • To the extent permissible by law, all town employee accruals are hereby preserved.

COVID-19 RESPONSE UPDATE FROM THE SUPERVISOR: March 22, 2020
Dear Residents:

The Town continues to take steps to protect the safety of our residents and our employees.  As you know, the COVID-19 pandemic is an evolving situation.  We continue to develop our response following directives from the President of the United States and Executive Orders issued by the Governor of New York. We are working closely with Rensselaer County on the local level.

The following actions and directives are in place to protect the Town's viability, our team and the residents we serve:
 
  • All Town offices and buildings are closed to the public without an appointment
  • All Town services are available via appointment, telephone or email interaction
  • All Town meetings and gatherings are hereby canceled until at least April 1, 2020
  • All unnecessary expenses by any department of the Town is hereby prohibited without authorization of the Supervisor
  • All nonessential Town employees are to be reduced by 50%
  • The Transfer Station remains open with reduced staffing and we request you limit interaction with staff
  • All Town nature preserves remain open for your enjoyment recognizing the need for social distancing
  • All Town Court proceedings that are not emergency in nature will be adjourned for 45 days
