Subject: Northeast Energy Direct Project -- New Compressor Station Locations
Tennessee Gas Pipeline Company, L.L.C. (“Tennessee”) is proposing the Northeast Energy Direct Project (“Project”) to expand its existing pipeline system to serve the growing demand for interstate natural gas transmission service in the northeastern United States and more specifically, the New England region.  To minimize impacts from construction, the proposed pipeline facilities will be co-located for a majority of its length with existing utility corridors where practicable.  In addition, the Project includes the modifications and construction of compressor stations and meter stations, including nine new compressor station locations.

Tennessee has recently determined the specific locations for the nine new compressor stations that are proposed to be constructed as part of the Project.  On June 1, 2015, Tennessee provided information to the FERC regarding these specific locations for the nine proposed compressor station locations.  You can access information about these proposed locations through our filing with FERC in the attached and at  The towns that these proposed compressor stations will be located in are listed below.

  • New Milford, PA
  • Franklin, NY
  • Nassau, NY
  • Schoharie, NY
  • Windsor, MA
  • Northfield, MA
  • Dracut, MA
  • New Ipswich, NH

We will continue keeping you updated about project-related activities that may be of interest to you. Thank you.

Update 5 March 2015

The following press release was issued today by Kinder Morgan:

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Kinder Morgan, Inc. (NYSE: KMI) today announced that its subsidiary, Tennessee Gas Pipeline Company (TGP), has finalized its anchor shippers for the market path component of the proposed Northeast Energy Direct Project (NED) following the formal close of the anchor shipper period in February. Collectively, the anchor shippers have executed agreements to transport approximately 500,000 dekatherms per day (Dth/d) of incremental natural gas supplies sourced from the prolific Marcellus Shale region to meet New England’s growing consumer and industrial gas needs, as well as helping to bolster electric reliability. NED’s market path component, from Wright, New York, to Dracut, Massachusetts, and beyond, is scalable to 1.2 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d), or ultimately 2.2 Bcf/d. A project in-service date of November 2018 is planned.

Initial note on December 09, 2014

The Tennessee Gas Pipeline Company has filed updated draft Resource Report for the Northeast Energy Direct Project. By notice issued October 2, 2014, the Commission approved Tennessee's request to use the pre-filing procedures for the Project.

As part of the Commission's pre-filing process, Tennessee submitted draft Resource Report 1 on November 5, 2014.  Draft Resource Report 1 reflects the information available as of the date of the filing regarding the proposed Project facilities and anticipated land requirements, construction procedures, and permitting/clearance requirements for the Project.

Tennessee notes that its development of the resource reports for the Project is an ongoing process, and as part of this process, Tennessee has submitted an amended version of Resource Report 1, which provides details about Tennessee's plan to adopt both the New York Powerline Alternative and the New Hampshire Powerline Alternative.  These alternatives will utilize existing utility corridors but WILL ADD another corridor in the Town of Nassau.

Tennessee is notifying elected officials, federal and state regulatory agencies, and landowners in proximity to the proposed route of its decision.  Please find this revised report detailing the adopted alternatives, including a project map, here.
